Historic coal residues and other carbon-bearing legacy materials represent an underused resource. The Hub is being developed to bring productive value back to these materials through conversion into useful gas streams and solid carbon outputs.
After practical recycling has taken place, a residual fraction still remains. The Hub is being developed to offer a higher-value route for suitable post-recyclate wastes, moving material away from lower-value disposal pathways and back into productive use.

Rather than producing a single commodity, the plant will recover and distribute value across several complementary outputs.
Hydrogen can support industrial processes that are difficult to electrify directly, provide an alternative fuel for heavy transport and contribute to a more flexible and resilient energy system.
The facility is being developed around the needs of real commercial users, with production and delivery arrangements shaped through direct engagement with future offtakers.
Thermal energy generated within the process can be recovered and used productively. Depending on final infrastructure and neighbouring demand, this could support industrial users, controlled-environment agriculture, local heat networks or additional energy conversion.
A proportion of the process gas may be used to generate electricity for onsite operations, reducing dependence on imported power. Future configurations may also support private-wire or local energy arrangements, subject to grid and commercial agreements.
The integrated process architecture creates future opportunities for biomethane, bio-naphtha and other low-carbon fuels, allowing the site to respond to changing demand in transport and industry.
